What Qualifies as a Dental Emergency? woman holding her jaw in pain

  • Chipped, broken, or knocked-out tooth. Sometimes accidents happen and our teeth sometimes take the fall. If you or your child has experienced any of these, it is important to bring them in right away to solve the problem and prevent any other problems. With this dental emergency, time is of the essence.

  • Crown or filling has fallen out of place. If this has happened, your exposed tooth can become very sensitive and painful, it is important to come in and see us as soon as you can.

If your crown has popped off, you should be sure to keep track of it until you come into the office. Crowns are custom made fake caps and they can be cemented back onto the base.

  • Gums become swollen. If you have just flossed and your teeth become swollen, it is important to remember that that is natural. Other swellings could be the sign of something wrong within your gums or with a tooth. Usually, if the gums around a tooth are severely swollen, it could mean that that tooth has been going through severe decay.

  • Tooth sensitivity can happen at any given moment. If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity there is a chance that there could be decay. It is important to get this looked at right away to prevent the decay from spreading.

If you are suffering from any of the above problems, you must come in to see us as soon as you can. We do understand that there are certain reasons why some would hesitate to come in right away, but for the health of your teeth taking care of problems right away is essential.
